On 31st December 2015…
We were invited to visit Bukit Bintang Boys’ Secondary School (BBBSS) by the headmistress Ms. Susan Koh and also the chair-person of Parents & Teachers Association (PTA) 2015/2016 Ms. Alice Kweh. It was a bustling morning as the school was filled with parents and students ahead of the new session reopen the following week. We were greeted by the students and Ms. Susan Koh was already waiting for us at the school foyer. She welcomed us with a big smile and led us to the meeting room.
Brief History – BBBSS was established in 1958, making it one of the oldest secondary boys school in the city of Petaling Jaya, Selangor. It is a mission school under the umbrella of Christian Brethren of Malaysia Property Trust but is administered by the government under the grant-in-aid system. As such, it has limited funds from the authority to maintain the school.
It all started with with an email back on 18th April 2015 – Ms. Alice Kweh wrote an email to us appealing for generous contribution and support of paint and building materials to the school. Being the oldest school, the building and facilities constantly require upgrades, repairs and replacement to ensure a conducive, safe and healthy environment for studying is maintained at all times. And unfortunately, on the very same morning there has been a fire that destroyed almost completely the 1st floor of “Boler Block”, which housed the auditorium for BBBSS. It was definitely devastating!
As our anchor paint partner, we immediately contacted Mr. Go Uenoyama, Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of Kansai Paint Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd and shared with him about the school’s situation. We have also expressed our interest to support the refurbishment works and invited Kansai Paint to participate together. Without hesitation, Mr. Go Uenoyama agreed, and pledged his full support to this school project. Being an international renowned paint company, Kansai Paint has been actively supporting the social needs and firmly believe in giving back to the community as part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR). We are most grateful to have a business partner that share these great values!
Several months later…
As Mr. Go Uenoyama and myself walked into the meeting room, we received yet another warm welcome from the representatives of the school, PTA and BBBSS Building Committee. Both of us were taken surprised as being told of a simple “Appreciation Ceremony” suddenly turned out to be quite an orchestrated event. The ceremony began with welcoming speeches, and followed with a video presentation by Ms. Susan Koh, which she detailed every corner of the school buildings “before and after” the repainting works. It was really impressive! And so did the “breakfast” that she has prepared for us. The home-made nasi lemak and roti jala were just fantastic and yummy-licious!
After a short break, Ms. Susan Koh briefed us on the school facilities and took us for a short tour around the school. We were very happy and excited to see a fresh, vibrant and lively school environment for the students. We both acknowledged that our contribution is relatively small, as compared to the time and effort dedicated by everyone in BBBSS, in making their school standing proud today!
You people are really amazing! Together, we paint a more beautiful world!
